It’s the holiday season…
Ho ho hello!
I left you all on a bit of a sour note last month. It was tough stuff to deal with the incoming dread of the new US administration. BUT I’m done taking on that energy! Horrible things don't deserve the energy!
Christmas and the holiday season is always a bright spot in the year, figuratively and literally! There's something magical about the way cities transform this time of year—lights twinkling in windows, trees adorned with ornaments, and streets bustling with shoppers and carolers. It feels like the world takes a deep, cold breath and lets its beauty shine even brighter.
As a photographer, this season is like a gift in itself. The golden glow of string lights, the frosty mist of breath in the air, and the cozy layers of scarves and coats make for perfect compositions. I adore capturing the contrast between the warmth of the lights and the chill of the season—especially when the snow falls and reflects everything back like a dream.
Some of my most cherished holiday photos are from Syracuse, NY, back in 2015. I remember the way the snow would blanket the city, transforming the streets into a sparkling wonderland. The glow of lights against the snowy backdrop created such a warm, nostalgic feeling—it was like stepping into a holiday card.
Fast forward to West Wales, where I’ve been capturing the festive spirit since 2018. It’s a completely different vibe here, but just as magical. The rugged coastal landscapes and quaint villages adorned with lights have a charm all their own. The way the holiday energy blends with the natural beauty of the area is something I never tire of photographing.
No matter where I am, the holiday season always feels like a time to pause and appreciate the simple joys—lights glowing against the night, the laughter of loved ones, and the thrill of capturing it all through my lens. It reminds me that beauty is everywhere, even in the smallest, coldest corners of the world.
So here’s to another season of cozy evenings, sparkling scenery, and endless inspiration! Wherever you are, I hope this holiday season brings you warmth, wonder, and maybe even a little snow to brighten your days. (If that does it for you, I for one don’t love snow)
‘Til next time… T<3
