“City” gal goes into the woods…

Now, let’s be clear! I’m technically a country gal. I grew up in the tiniest of towns, where the cows outnumber the people, BUT in my heart, I’m a city dweller. I always dreamed about the hustle and bustle of living in a big city.

When I turned 30, I made the choice to move to the UK. It was a dream I’d always had, and I finally had the guts to do it in a new decade of life. The opportunity I got was based in Bristol. I didn’t know much about Bristol beforehand, but I knew it was a city, and that’s really all I needed! Thankfully, it was a choice that changed my life for the better. It sparked my deep love for street photography and street art.

One of my fav street artists, Banksy

So much of my photography focuses on capturing art and street energy. HOWEVER, I now live in West Wales, where nature is abundant—and some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. And now that we’re in the autumnal vibe, nature is practically begging me to capture it through my lens.

My partner and I decided to explore some woodlands and landscapes we hadn’t been to before. Our first stop was Ty Canol Nature Reserve. Honestly, it’s one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve seen in Wales. Walking through the ancient woods felt like stepping into a fantasy film!

Next, we visited Brechfa Forest. I’ve taken a lot of photos in the woods, which can sometimes feel a bit "samey." So, this time, I tried to capture the feeling of the woods. I used a 50mm lens—not my usual choice for landscapes—and focused on the details of nature. I wanted to zoom in on textures, colors, and the little intricacies you notice when you’re surrounded by nature. Here are a few shots from that day:

I am, and always will be, a country girl. Even though I self-identify as a city gal, I feel such a sense of belonging when I’m in the trees or by a babbling brook. There’s something truly visceral about quiet moments in a lush forest. Maybe it’s the positive ions or Gaia herself giving off much-needed energy! Either way, I hope these photos transport you and help you feel recharged.

‘Til next time… T<3
